(NEW YORK, NY) October 21, 2015 - On Monday, October 19, VH1 presented a groundbreaking hour-long roundtable discussion "LHH: Out in Hip Hop," which focused on the realities of being out in the hip hop community and posed the question: Is hip hop homophobic? The special, which aired at 11 PM ET/PT, garnered 1.5 million total viewers**, and ranked as the #1 non-sports cable program among women 18-49 in its time period. The special also boosted the network's ratings +24% from the prior 8-week average in the time period.
Moderated by ABC News' T.J. Holmes, the open dialogue included a diverse lineup of panelists from various backgrounds and experiences, including television and radio personalities, hip hop artists, film producers, writers, activists and religious leaders within American pop-culture and the LGBT community. Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood's own Miles and Milan were also present, discussing their personal experiences since the show has premiered.
Additionally, the hashtag #OutInHipHop was a trending topic throughout the evening on Monday, and the special ranked in the top 10 most discussed programs on TV (excluding sports) that night on Twitter.
