MORE THAN 100 MILLION PEOPLE WATCH ALL OR PART OF CBS NEWS'S MAJOR BROADCAST'S THROUGH THE FIFTH WEEK OF THE 2015-2016 SEASON
More than 100 million people have watched all or part of CBS News' major broadcasts through the fifth week of the 2015-2016 television season, according to Nielsen most current ratings. An estimated 37.76 million of those viewers are adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.
In fact, on a season-to-date basis, more viewers in America are watching CBS News major broadcasts than any other broadcast network's news offerings, according to Nielsen.
Last week alone, original reporting from across the country and around the world helped make the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and CBS THIS MORNING the only evening news and morning news broadcasts to post year-to-year viewer gains, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. That reporting propelled CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and FACE THE NATION to be the #1 Sunday morning news and Sunday morning public affairs broadcasts respectively with viewers. And it made 48 HOURS the #1 program with viewers on Saturday night.
Here's a recap of how CBS News broadcasts performed last week, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings:
The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY remained the only network evening news broadcast to grow its audience year-to-year during the week ending Oct. 23. The broadcast delivered 6.82 million viewers (+5% from 6.48m) and a 1.2/05 with adults 25-54. The broadcast cut the viewer deficit with NBC by 620,000 viewers and with ABC by 440,000 viewers. Editor's Note: Ratings for the week ending Oct. 23 and the year-ago comparison represent a four-day average (Monday-Wednesday, Friday) as the broadcast aired under an amended title on Thursday due to THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS is the only network evening news broadcast to viewer gains (+6%, 6.81m from 6.44m) and maintained a 1.3/05 with adults 25-54.
60 MINUTES (7:00-8:00 PM) remained the nation's #1 news program and delivered 10.71 million viewers and a 2.0/05 with adults 25-54 on Oct. 25. Season-to-date, the broadcast is delivering 13.8 million viewers (+ 15% from 12.0m) and a 3.2/08 with adults 25-54 (+23% from 2.6/07)
CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news broadcast to post year-to-year gains among viewers for the week ending Oct. 23. The broadcast delivered 3.28 million viewers (+6% from 3.08m) and a 0.8/07 with adults 25-54. CBS THIS MORNING closed the viewership gap with NBC by 380,000 viewers, and cut the deficit with ABC by 620,000 viewers. Season-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is delivering 3.38 million viewers (+9% in viewers from 3.09m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.8/07) compared to last year.
FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday morning public affairs broadcast with viewers on Oct. 25. The broadcast delivered 3.70 million viewers (+23% from 3.01m compared to last year ) and a 0.7/04 with adults 25-54 (even). Editor's Note: FACE THE NATION's second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 57.4% of the CBS affiliates. Season-to-date, FACE THE NATION is the #1 Sunday morning public affairs broadcast drawing 3.45 million viewers (+6% from 3.24m last season) and a 0.7/03 in adults 25-54 (even).
CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD on Oct. 25 posted its largest audience since May 31, 2015 and remained the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54. The broadcast delivered 5.67 million viewers and a 1.2/06 with adults 25-54. Season-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING is the #1 Sunday morning news program with viewers (5.31m) and adults 25-54 (1.1/06).
48 HOURS was #1 program with viewers and the night's #1 non-sports broadcast with adults 25-54 on Oct. 24. The broadcast added nearly +850,000 viewers from the previous week. 48 HOURS delivered a season-best 5.61 million viewers (+10% from 5.11m last year), and matched a season-best 1.4/04 with adults 25-54 (up +17% from a 1.2/04) compared to the same night last year. Season-to-date, 48 HOURS is delivering 5.40 million viewers and a 1.4/04 in adults 25-54 (even with last season).
CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY on Oct. 24 delivered 1.98 million viewers and a 0.5/04 with adults 25-54. Season-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is delivering 2.11 million viewers (+6% from 1.99m) and a 0.5/04 in adults 25-54 (even) compared to last season.
