Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Wins Repeat Battle

Here are the highlights of the 17 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (12/29/16):

CBS (5.583 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #1) was king of the repeat race with its mix of "The Big Bang Theory" (9.211 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1), "The Great Indoors" (6.122 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2), "Mom" (5.513 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3), "Life in Pieces" (4.622 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) and "Scorpion" (4.017 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10).

The silver then went to NBC (3.300 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T2) with encores of "Superstore" (3.102 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4), "The Good Place" (2.439 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10) and "America's Got Talent: Holiday Spectacular" (3.565 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6).

Next up was ABC (2.764 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T2) and second runs of "The Great Holiday Baking Show" (3.651 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6), "American Housewife" (2.505 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10), "Speechless" (2.209 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10), "Modern Family" (2.463 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6) and "Fresh Off the Boat" (2.104 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.025 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T2) offered up repeats of "Hell's Kitchen" (2.042 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T10) and "Hell's Kitchen" (2.009 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6).

And finally, repeats of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" (1.038 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.3, #16) and "Supernatural" (0.724 million viewers, #17; adults 18-49: 0.2, #17) rounded out the night on The CW (0.881 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).

In late-night metered market ratings (via NBC's press release):

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.0/5 with an encore telecast; "Late Show with Stephen Colbert," 1.8/4 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.5/4 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.6/3 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.3/1 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.0/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.0/3 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 0.9/3 with an encore. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/2 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.2/1 with an encore.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/1 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 11 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (12/31/15):

ABC (9.828 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1) closed out 2015 on top with its presentation of "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin Eve: Part 1" (8.207 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.3, #2) and "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin Eve: Part 2" (13.073 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.9, #1).

NBC (4.427 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then claimed the silver with its specials "A Toast to 2015!" (4.764 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3) and "NBC's New Year's Eve Game Night with Andy Cohen" (3.754 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3).

Next up was FOX (2.601 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) and its airing of "Pitbull's New Year's Eve Revolution, Part One" (2.601 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #6).

Meanwhile, CBS (3.601 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) offered up repeats of "The Big Bang Theory" (5.937 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3), "Life in Pieces" (3.847 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #7), "Mom" (3.298 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8), "2 Broke Girls" (2.847 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) and "Elementary" (2.839 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).

And finally, an encore of "iHeartRadio Music Festival - Night 1" (0.847 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.2, #11) on The CW (0.847 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the night.

In late-night metered market ratings (via NBC's press release):

· From 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m., "NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" averaged a 4.3 rating, 10 share in households in the 56 markets metered by Nielsen Media Research and a 2.7/10 in 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters. "NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" retained 88% of last year's 4.9 in metered market households, which equaled the show's #2 rating since 2009. Last night's 2.7 in 18-49 in the local people meters retains 87% of the year-ago 3.1, which matched the show's high since 2009.

· Other late-night averages last night in the markets metered by Nielsen included: "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2015" on ABC, 10.0/24 from 11:30 p.m.-1:15 a.m., 7.5/29 in 18-49 in the local people meters; and Fox's "Pitbull's New Year's Revolution," 3.1/7 in metered-market households from 11 p.m.-12:30 a.m., 2.7/10 in 18-49 in the local people meters. National results for the December 31 late-night programs, including viewer numbers, are due from Nielsen Media Research on Thursday, Jan. 7.

· An encore telecast of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," airing at 12:30 a.m. ET, averaged a 2.2/6 in households in Nielsen's 56 metered markets and a 1.2/6 in 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

· At 1:30 a.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Late Night with Seth Meyers" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.6/4 in the local people meters.

· At 2:30 a.m., an encore "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households.
