Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: College Basketball Sparks CBS Victory

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/28/19):

CBS (6.249 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.6, #1) once again took home top honors with its primetime coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (6.718 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) followed by a second game from the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.780 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2).

ABC (5.263 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then was the silver draw with fresh installments of "Grey's Anatomy" (7.296 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2), "Station 19" (5.473 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #4) and "For the People" (3.020 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.6, #7).

Next up was NBC (2.941 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #3) and its lineup of "Superstore" (3.443 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #5), "AP Bio" (2.361 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8), "Will & Grace" (3.275 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.7, #6), the premiere of "Abby's" (2.618 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) plus a repeat "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (2.974 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.299 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T4) opted for repeats of "Gotham" (1.290 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T11) and "The Orville" (1.307 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T11).

And finally, a repeat "Supernatural" (0.929 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.2, #14) and the season finale of "Legacies" (0.937 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T11) closed out the night on The CW (0.933 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T4).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.3/2 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.4/3 with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.4/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 0.9/4 with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.2/2 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.2/3 with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.5/2 in metered-market households and a 0.1/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 17 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (3/29/18):

CBS (8.363 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) was still the network to beat on Thursday with the return of "The Big Bang Theory" (12.940 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1), "Young Sheldon" (11.693 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #2), "Mom" (8.656 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4), "Life in Pieces" (6.204 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.0, #6) and "SWAT" (5.344 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7).

Second place then went to ABC (5.525 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) with a new "Grey's Anatomy" (6.990 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3), week two of "Station 19" (5.827 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.2, #5) and the relocated "Scandal" (3.760 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10).

Next up was NBC (3.535 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #3) and its mix of "Superstore" (2.936 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T10), "AP Bio" (2.101 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T14), "Will & Grace" (3.727 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7), "Champions" (1.918 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.5, #16) and "Chicago Fire" (5.265 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7).
