DESCRIPTION: (from History's press release, July 2016) HISTORY'S(R) hit original series ICE ROAD TRUCKERS is back for a landmark tenth season with a winter like never before. With the effects of climate change and El Niño creating record warm temperatures, an extreme sense of urgency descends on the ice road truckers as fear grows that they will not be able to deliver supplies to the communities that depend on them when the season premieres Thursday, August 4th at 10pm ET/PT on HISTORY. For the past nine seasons, a determined group of long-haul truckers have kept the remote villages and work camps of Canada's North supplied during the harsh winter by driving their rigs over hundreds of miles on ice roads cut through frozen muskeg and across the surface of icy rivers and lakes. Over the years, the drivers have battled ferocious storms, freezing temperatures and bitter rivalries, but have always managed to overcome these challenges to deliver supplies to the remote communities they serve. The tenth season brings the ice road truckers their biggest challenge yet, as road authorities warn that the rising temperatures will cause the roads to open late and close early. Each trucking company, regardless of their size, is impacted by this race against the elements. Trucking giant Polar struggles to maintain relationships that have taken years to build, so boss Mark Kohaykewych and his team push themselves to their limit in order to get as many loads as possible up north. For Darrell Ward and Lisa Kelly's small company, the shortened season threatens to not only ruin their reputation, but shut down their new business. In order to survive, the team looks to expand to new provinces and territories - no matter how dangerous. |
