"KING OF THE NERDS": "THE PEOPLE'S NERD" WINNER REVEALED
The people have spoken, and Josh Wittenkeller of Grayslake, Ill., has been chosen to serve as "The People's Nerd" this winter on TBS's hit competition series King of the Nerds. For the show's second season, TBS gave fans the chance to cast one of the competitors through a special crowd-sourced casting call conducted on the show's Facebook page. Josh will now compete against 10 other nerds from around the country when King of the Nerds kicks off its second season Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), only on TBS.
Hosted by actors Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds, The Long Riders) and Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds, Ray), King of the Nerds features competitors from across the nerd spectrum facing challenges that test their intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess. The nerds live together in "Nerdvana," competing first as teams before moving on to individual challenges. In the end, only one competitor will be named the quintessential master of all things nerdy, winning the $100,000 prize.
This year's competitors are looking to inherit the crown from current crown-holder Celeste Anderson, a professional gamer from Orillia, Ontario, who specializes in first-person shooters and speed-cubing. Celeste is set to make a guest appearance in the second season opener, which will introduce viewers to Josh and the rest of the nerds vying for Celeste's crown.
Josh, an enthusiast of all things gaming, is well known for his YouTube channel, TheJWittz, which has been running for more than four years and has drawn more than 300,000 subscribers worldwide. He is a gaming video specialist, a nerdcore rapper and a world competitor in card games. As a graduate in the field of media, Josh spends his academic time in an attempt to help his favorite non-traditional forms of storytelling - including video games, graphic novels, manga and animated series - be taken seriously as genuine works of art. With an over-the-top, quirky personality and a bizarre skill set, this multitalented nerd is bound to make an impression.
Josh was chosen by fans from hundreds of video entries during the five-week campaign in which candidates created and submitted short videos showcasing their unique nerdiness. Friends, family and fellow nerds then voted on which nerd they wanted to see battling for the title in TBS's nerd-tastic competition.
King of the Nerds is executive-produced by Ben Silverman, Chris Grant and Jimmy Fox of Electus and Craig Armstrong, Rick Ringbakk and Charles Wachter of 5X5 Media, as well as Carradine and Armstrong. Electus International, the global distribution arm of Electus, is distributing the series internationally.
