ABOUT THE MOVIE
Sgt. Books (Robert Baker), a self-aware soldier living in a video game, seeks help from a straight-talking Monk (Mark Hamill) who teaches him the cheat codes of life. Now he can finally break free from the game's endless battles, take a break from saving the girls at the end of each level, and convince his fellow warrior Lt. Nova (Bent Chase) that not everything in this game world is as awesome as it seems.
STATEMENT FROM ROGER CORMAN
Virtually Heroes is a war picture, a satire of videogame culture, and a buddy comedy wrapped up into one film that is so unusual and exciting that it demands a brief introduction:
What appears at first to be a classic high-octane action film shortly reveals itself to be set within a video game - a bad videogame. The film's heroes, soldiers Books and Nova, are aware that they are part of an artificial universe, but with opposite outlooks. Books is fedup with the senseless violence and absurd premise of the game; he'd quit if it weren't for the sexy reporter waiting for him at the end of each level and living the few moments they spend together anticipating what he calls "a lousy, scripted kiss." Meanwhile, his partner Nova revels in non-stop carnage and searches for a secret level filled with naked women.
What follows is a hilarious spoof of video games and action movies - a series of outrageous villains to defeat, impossibly powerful weapons, and a cameo from Mark Hamill as the wise master who helps Books unlock the meaning of existence, a.k.a. how to win the game.
