DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, THE (NBC, New!) - Taylor Hackford's 1997 feature - based on Andrew Neiderman's novel of the same name about "a public defender who joins a law firm that is run by the Devil himself" - is being eyed as a potential TV series at the Peacock, where it has a put pilot commitment. Matt Venne (The Exorcism of Molly Harley) is on board to pen the adaptation with John Wells, Andrew Stearn and Arnold Kopelson executive producing for Warner Bros. Television. Venne then will serve as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
NO ORDINARY TIME (FOX, New!) - Doris Kearns Goodwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning book - "chronicling President Franklin D. Roosevelt's third term during World War II" - is being developed as a 10-hour limited series at the network. Writer Paul Webb (Selma) and director Stephen Frears (The Queen) will spearhead the project, with Bob Cooper, Tyler Mitchell and Hannah Pakula - widow of the late Alan Pakula, who was developing a feature incarnation of said effort - executive producing for Entertainment One Television and Landscape Entertainment. POWERS (PSN/Sony; W: Charlie Huston; D: David Slade) - Sharlto Copley (Maleficent) has been tapped as the male lead on the drama pilot, based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's comic of the same name, about two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities. Walker - played by Jason Patric in the original FX pilot - is described as "a dapper and charismatic faded hero who lost his powers in a battle with a super-human mass killer." Also cast is Michelle Forbes as Retro Girl, "the undisputed super star of the Powers community, an icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen." Adam Godley, Max Fowler, Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor and Olesya Rulin co-star. (Deadline.com)
SOUND OF THE SUMNERS, THE (FOX, New!) - Writer Peter Knight and director Jason Winer are set to team for a new single-camera comedy described as "a truly honest exploration of a contemporary family featuring a unique musical element that involves an irreverent and buzzworthy use of original music and songs." The latter's 20th Century Fox Television-based Small Dog Picture Co. is behind the project, which has a significant penalty attached, with the company's Renate Radford also serving as an executive producer. Nestor Serrano will recur on "Revenge" as "a commanding and perceptive police chief" (TVLine.com); Leslie Bibb has scored an arc on CBS's "The Odd Couple" as Casey, "the professional model sister of Emily (Lindsay Sloane)" (TVLine.com); Jaime Ray Newman will recur on Amazon's "Bosch" as "a premiere attorney in the public defender's office who finds herself assigned to a suspected serial killer" (TVLine.com); Kyle MacLachlan will return to "The Good Wife" as oddball attorney Josh Perotti (TVLine.com); Gina Ravera will guest on "Castle" as "the vice president of a successful toy company" (TVLine.com); Holt McCallany and Bill Irwin are both bound for the new season of "Blue Bloods" (TVLine.com); and Teri Polo and Stacy Keach will both drop by "Law & Order: SVU" as "the lawyer daughter of Orion Bauer (Keach), the esteemed owner of a family-run sportswear empire" (TVGuide.com).
